Exciting New Projects

Have you been wanting to get involved with CNP, but not sure how?

Here are two new exciting opportunities:

1.) Operation Frontline: CNP is partnering with the Inter-faith Food Shuttle and Operation Frontline to offer cooking-based nutrition education for kids and their families. We need help with all aspects of this program: fundraising, class coordination, getting food; plus we will need chefs and nutritionists to teach the classes.

2. Veggie-Mobile: We are in the planning phases of a new venture: a mobile vehicle to bring fresh local produce to people where they live work and play. We will target lower income and under-served areas. We need creative people to help develop the business model.

If you want more info about either or these projects or are interested in helping out, please contact us at info@cnpnc.org

Both these projects will help increase access to healthy local food and will bring us closer to our goal of running a non-profit restaurant!

Successes and New Board!

CLASSES AT CLUB NOVA
CNP's Nutrition Education and Outreach Committee is currently running a year-long class series at Club Nova. Last month we did an initial "focus group" session to find out what Club Nova members were interested in. This past Thursday we held our first class introducing members to the benefits of eating locally and shopping at the farmers market. We did a strawberry taste test and made a roasted beet dish (recipes will be available as soon as we get our website up and running). On Saturday, we accompanied a group of Club Nova members to the Farmer's Market for a hands on experience. If you are interested in being involved in future classes or hosting Farmer's Market trips with other groups, please contact the committee chair, Cordon McGee (cordonmcgee@gmail.com)

NEW BOARD MEMBERS NEEDED
Our Board will be meeting next month to elect a new Board of Directors for a 2 year term. If you are interested in becoming a Board Member and have not been in contact with me about it, please send me an e-mail (lucia@cnpnc.org). The Board of Directors meets twice a year. Some Board members also chair standing committees for the organization.

NEW WEBSITE COMING SOON
CNP of North Carolina now has a new IP address- www.cnpnc.org
We hope to have the website up and running soon. If anyone is interested in being involved in website or logo design, please contact the publicity committee chair Aimee Shea (amorin92@gmail.com).

Interest Meeting Location

Since we had a lot of interest from people who live or work near UNC's campus, we decided to have our meeting in the UNC School of Public Health.
The meeting will take place on Tuesday, May 18th at 5:30 pm. in 241 Rosenau Hall (also called the Nutrition Kitchen)

If you enter Rosenau from the main front entrance on Columbia (across from Health Sciences Library) you go up to the second floor and take a right our of the stairwell and then another right around the hallway and 241 will be on your right.

Parking is available (free after 5 pm. anywhere on campus) in the McCauley surface lot behind the Fed Ex Global Education Center (click here for directions).
From that lot you walk up the stairs on the southeast side of the lot. You will follow the sidewalk which goes between the Tate-Turner-Kurault Building (on right) and Kerr Building for the School of Pharmacy on Left. That path will lead you past some tables into the School of Public\ Health (McGavern Greenberg Building). Enter the building and head upstairs and to the left (follow signs down hallway and into Rosenau). Once in Rosenau continue straight and then make 2 rights to get to room 241.
